Child Protection Information Sharing (CP-IS)

The Child Protection Information Sharing (CP-IS) programme links IT systems used across the health and social care, to electronically share by secure means basic information using the child’s NHS Number that a child on a protection plan has attended a healthcare setting.

This programme of work is for children and unborn children subject to Child Protection Plans (CPPs) or Looked after Children (LAC). The system is almost at full implementation across the health and social care partnership and is being embedded to enhance the safeguarding of protected children. The CP-IS system is endorsed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and forms part of their key lines of enquiry during CQC safeguarding inspections.

CP-IS is included within Schedule 32-Safeguarding of NHS Standard Contract for provider health organisations. It is an ambition within the NHS Long Term Plan, that by 2022/23, the CP-IS system will be extended to cover all health care settings, including general practices.
